Garden Centres
I have noticed that many of you visit garden centres whilst you are with us and can be seen on a Saturday loading up plants. I therefore thought that you might appreciate some of my favourites. I have especially detailed the small or specialist nurseries that are difficult to find. If you visit any others that are particularly good then do let me know or write it up in the recommendation book.

Rogers Nurseries, Pickering

A local Pickering nursery which specialises in Roses, Rogers does most of its business mail order. They stock other shrubs, herbs, and Alpines, bulbs and vegetables plants.
Open: All year, 10:00am - 5:00pm
Location: On the road out of Pickering towards the A64 about 1 mile.

Steam & Moorland Garden Centre

Steam and Moorlands specialises in garden equipment and only has a limited amount of plants and seeds but worth a visit.
Open: All year daily, 10am - 5:00pm
On the road out of Pickering towards the A64 about 1 mile.

Metcalfes Plant Centre, Ebberston

We have lived here eight years and didn't find out about this garden centre until this year. All the hanging baskets at our main site in Pickering came from here and they provide quality plants at great prices. Range is limited as they only sell their own plants but they are definetly worth a visit.
All year daily, 10am - 4:00pm
The nursery is situated at the bottom of Ebberston village 1 mile from the junction with the A170 Scarborough to Pickering road.

Castle Howard Garden Centre, Malton

It’s a good centre with quite a wide variety of plants. It's certainly worth a visit if you are visiting the house or gardens at Castle Howard.
Open – all year daily, 10am - 4:30pm
At Castle Howard to the right of the main entrance so you can visit without paying admission to the main house.

Visit www.castlehoward.co.uk for further information.

Perrys Plants, The River Garden, Sleights

Another quite unusual garden centre, it specialises in unusual plants and is set in a garden that sells other “bits and bobs” connected with the garden and has a nice tea room next to the river.
Open: All year 10am-5pm daily (I think).
Location It’s located in Sleights on the way to Whitby. Take the Whitby road and you will come into Sleights about 4 miles outside Whitby. At the bottom of the hill you will see the sign, turn right toward Ruswarp and its about 200yds on the right hand side.

Black Sheep Beer

It has to be Black Sheep brewed at Masham. For a draught pint then then both the White Swan and the Black Swan in the high street sell it.
